Mr. E. Phala joined Eskom’s Generation Engineering in 1988 as an Engineer in training. He joined Sasol 2 in 1991 as Instruments and Projects Engineer and rejoined Eskom in 1993 as Senior Engineer and later Chief Engineer in the Technical Audits Division. He left Eskom in 1998 to form a black empowered company called Kutlwano Engineering Consulting (KEC), where he is presently Chairman. KEC formed a joint venture company with Eskom Enterprise, called Y2K Solutions Africa, where Mr. Phala holds the position of Chief Executive Officer. Y2K Solutions Africa changed its name to EON Solutions Africa with its business focus on Telecommunication.

Mr. Phala also holds the position of Director in the four subsidiary companies of KEC, namely Power Network Optimisation, a joint Venture with Transmission Grid Consulting, Shilangane Engineering (Electrical Construction Company), Tunza Integrated Solutions (IT Company) and Concelio Project Management.

Mr. Phala has a degree in Electrical Engineering and a Masters degree in Engineering Management, both from Pretoria University. He is well versed in power generation, transmission and distribution, as well as Process Engineering. Companies under his control are currently conducting business with utilities in Africa; namely Kenya Power and Light Company (Kenya), Tanseco (Tanzania), Uganda Electricity Board (Uganda), Zesco (Zambia), Electricidade de Mozambique (Mocambique), and Nampower (Namibia).
